Inspecting fire service lifts

Certificate: RFS Certificate
Modules: 5
Last Updated: 16th March 2026

Welcome to your lift safety training. In this course, you’ll get to grips with the essentials of monthly lift inspections under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations.

We will start by introducing what can go wrong when lifts aren’t tested properly, the key legal duties involved, and the role of the Responsible Person. You’ll then be introduced to the three lift types used during fire situations—lifts with recall, lifts for fire‑service use, and evacuation lifts—so you know what to expect from each one.

From there, the course walks you through the core checks: recall functions, fire‑service controls, evacuation lift features, and the good‑practice checks that support everyday safety. You’ll also learn how to use LEIA checklists to record these checks and how to report faults clearly, and keep your Premises Information Box up to date.

We’ll finish with a short knowledge check to reinforce the essentials of safe, compliant lift inspection.

Let’s begin.
